Disney's MALEFICENT Movie Review - Opens Today Nationwide! #Maleficent

“The featured movie event was provided free of charge to facilitate my review, but all opinions are 100% the opinion of the Coupon Savvy Sarah family.”

The highly anticipated Disney movie Maleficent, starring Angelina Jolie, opens today nationwide. My family and I were invited to a local Michigan advance screening of Maleficent this past week. The movie is rate PG but there are some battle scenes that I think might be scary for some younger viewers....I would make sure to explain to your children that a lot of these scenes are computer generated or enhanced so they understand no one was being hurt in those scenes.

FUN FACT:
Three of Angelina Jolie's children are shown in the film - the young Aurora is played by her young daughter Vivienne and her son Pax and daughter Zahara are extras in the christening scene in the movie so keep an eye out for them!

A little background on Maleficent:

From Disney comes Maleficent-the untold story of Disney's most iconic villain from the 1959 classic Sleeping Beauty. A beautiful, pure-hearted young woman, Maleficent has an idyllic life growing up in a peaceable forest kingdom, until one day when an invading army threatens the harmony of the land.

Maleficent rises to be the land's fiercest protector, but she ultimately suffers a ruthless betrayal-an act that begins to turn her pure heart to stone. Bent on revenge, Maleficent faces an epic battle with the invading king's successor and, as a result, places a curse upon his newborn infant Aurora. As the child grows, Maleficent realizes that Aurora holds the key to peace in the kingdom-and perhaps to Maleficent's true happiness as well.

Rose loved the movie and I enjoyed it as well. My husband felt it was reminiscent of the past couple Disney movies in which the females are the rescuers and not the traditional man saving woman role. The visual effects were amazing - the computer generated animals and fairies were so beautiful to look at. We watched the movie in 3D and it was really enjoyable to "fly" along with Maleficent's character. I won't give any spoilers but it was definitely an enjoyable family movie!
