My daughter Rose is a huge Skylanders fan, as are her friends, so she was so excited to hear about the fourth game installment of Skylanders, Trap Team, that was released in October. She loves to trade characters with her friends so they can try out different actions in the game.

Skylanders Trap Team Game Overview:

Skylanders is redefining the toys-to-life phenomenon with yet another ground-breaking innovation, Skylanders Trap Team. In previous Skylanders games, we brought physical toys to life inside the game. With Skylanders Trap Team, we are reversing the magic by bringing characters out of the game, into physical “Traps” that kids can take with them, effectively bringing Life to Toys.

In Skylanders Trap Team, Kaos continues his ongoing quest to rule over Skylands.  He has discovered the location of the legendary Cloudcracker Prison -- a fortress built entirely out of the magical substance Traptanium and home to Skylands’ most nefarious baddies.  In an attempt to build his own army of foes, Kaos blows up the prison, releasing the most wanted villains and blasting shards of Traptanium to Earth in the form of Traps.  Now it’s up to Portal Masters to recapture all of the escaped villains using powerful Traptanium Traps and defeat Kaos before it’s too late!

Skylanders Trap Team introduces a ground-breaking innovation that lets Portal Masters “trap” the most wanted villains in Skylands and then play as them in the game in the battle for good. The game offers an unprecedented new addition to the game’s play pattern in the form of Traptanium Traps. When this new type of toy is placed directly into the Traptanium Portal, Portal Masters can “capture” a variety of special villains from the game and magically transport them from Skylands into the real world.

Skylanders released Trap Team on eight different platforms which is unheard of! The platforms include: PS4, Xbox One, Wii U, Wii, PS3, Xbox 360, Nintendo 3DS and Tablets. We tried the game out on an iPad tablet and also Nintendo Wii. With the Tablet version, you download the game from the app store (no additional purchase required) and use the portal and game controller to play the game. The Wii version you use the disc included in the starter pack to play. We ran into glitches with the Wii version while trying to capture the Dreamcatcher - our entire system would crash and make a loud noise. Apparently we weren't the only ones and a lot of users encountered this issue. We contacted Activision who suggested we try a couple of "tricks" to try and beat the system but they are not easy for young gamers to accomplish.

According to Activision this has been fixed with the new games on store shelves (you can request a new disc from Activision Support) but we encountered another glitch later on in the game that we couldn't get to before due to the previous glitch so Rose has been unable to get through the entire game on the Wii and is disappointed. We didn't have any of these issues on the tablet version and I have asked around and other platforms seem to be running just fine. I would definitely recommend purchasing one of the other versions if possible until these glitches get fixed or stay diligent in contacting Activision Support for any errors you encounter.

Seasoned fans can play Skylanders Trap Team with their entire collection of 175 forward compatible characters from Skylanders SWAP Force, Skylanders Giants and Skylanders Spyro’s Adventure.

Skylanders Trap Team is available for approximately $74.99 at various retailers in store and online.
