Michigan Travel Destinations: MotorCity Casino Hotel + Iridescence Restaurant in Detroit #Sponsored

“The post is sponsored by MotorCity Casino Hotel. We received a complimentary night's hotel stay and dinner. All opinions are 100% the opinion of the Coupon Savvy Sarah family.”

My husband and I just recently celebrated our 18th wedding anniversary a couple weeks ago. We were very excited to escape for our special day to stay and dine as guests of the MotorCity Casino Hotel, especially after hearing so many wonderful things from friends of ours that stayed there before.

We live about an hour from Detroit's own MotorCity Casino Hotel in Michigan. It is located within a short driving distance of the historic Greektown area in addition to the beautiful Detroit RiverWalk, the famous Renaissance Center and even the Ambassador Bridge leading into Canada.

Upon arrival to MotorCity Casino Hotel we were greeted by very friendly and helpful staff at the front desk. The woman who helped check us in even wished us a happy anniversary (they had it noted in the computer system that it was our reason for visiting)...a very sweet gesture. She made sure to ask if we needed any help with booking dinner reservations, tickets for attending any shows - she was extremely thorough in making sure our needs were covered.

Our room (an Executive Junior Suite) rendered us speechless upon entering. Not only was it almost as big as our house in square footage, but the floor to ceiling windows with a spectacular view of the city was simply amazing. We truly felt pampered and spoiled!

Our Executive Junior Suite (750 sq ft) featured a spacious living room, dining area, a wet bar and separate bedroom with a king-size bed (the bed had 300 thread count imported Italian bed linen on it - very nice). There were two bathrooms: One was a small guest bathroom and the other featured a deep soaking bath with separate shower with multiple shower heads (very relaxing) and exclusive Molton Brown bath amenities. The Suite also had an in-room safe, two 37” Plasma televisions (one of them being in the bathroom mirror!), a granite top desk with ergonomic chair, complimentary high speed Internet access and iPod docking station (my husband and I thought this was really cool with streaming some nice, romantic music). The Suite also includes a complimentary continental breakfast in the morning in addition to soft drinks and hors d'oeuvres in the Concierge Lounge in the evening.

We explored the Casino shortly after checking out our room because our dinner reservation wasn't until a bit later so we had time to look around. There are over 2,900 slot machines including the latest multi-line video and 5-reel slots. You can also try your luck at 59 table games including Blackjack, Roulette, Casino War, Pai Gow Poker, Mini-Baccarat and Craps. MotorCity Casino also has a 12-table smoke-free Poker Room where you can go ALL-IN at Seven Card Stud or Texas Hold'Em.

Make sure to sign up for the rewards card - Club Metro - upon entering the Casino or Hotel because using your rewards card throughout the Hotel, Casino, Gift Shops, Spa and Restaurants will earn you miles to redeem for rewards!! You even get free slot play after signing up for Club Metro - check out all the details on their website.

In addition to the beautiful rooms at the hotel and the neon lights of the casino, MotorCity Casino Hotel also has a spa and fitness center available for the ultimate relaxation and pampering for yourself or as a couple. They also feature live in-house entertainment at the different venues throughout the casino such as the Sound Board, the Chromatics Lounge and more - they have all the details on their website in addition to full event schedules

MotorCity Casino Hotel has plenty of dining options available while staying with them or just visiting the casino. Whether you are in the mood for quick sandwich, a buffet meal or a fine dining experience - they have you covered. Check out the entire list of restaurants here on their website

We had the pleasure of dining at Iridescence while staying at the hotel. Iridescence is a 4-diamond dining restaurant with a 5 star view. It is located on the entire 16th floor of the MotorCity Casino Hotel with views of the city including the Renaissance Center, The Ambassador Bridge and more. Our server Nichole was extremely attentive and patient with answering all our questions (she even knew it was our anniversary as well!).

The menus are on electronic tablets so you not only browse the extensive list of beverages, appetizers, meals and desserts, but you can click on the item description and it pulls up a photo of the dish. This was very helpful in selecting what we wanted to order.

We started our meal off with a cheese tray that complimented the bread basket they brought us. We both ordered specialty cocktails that are exclusive to the restaurant - mine was clear Bloody Mary made with a cucumber vodka and salted rim that was out of this world!

For our main meals I ordered their Filet Mignon which is a 9-oz filet from Niman Ranch, a producer of all natural, humanely-raised beef, with Robuchon potatoes, lemon herb butter, grilled asparagus salad, a red wine demi and mushroom powder. It was cooked to perfection and melted in my mouth!

My husband ordered the Iridescence Bento Box. It had a little bit of everything - a Crispy Tuna with piquillo pepper piperade, wasabi pea purée and a rice cake, Tempura Shrimp with house-made giardiniera and yuzu sake emulsion, plus Seared Sea Bass with coconut broth, watercress, radicchio and carrots. He ate every bit of it!

For dessert we ordered the Milky Way and it was "out of this world!" The Milky Way dessert is a chocolate hazelnut mousse filled inside of a homemade chocolate cone which is made from drizzles of chocolate rolled into a cone shape. The cone comes upside down on a plate with fresh berries, three different sauces around the edge and a homemade chocolate star cookie crisp balanced on the top. And if the dessert couldn't get better and more decadent....it came with a shot of Bailey's on the side in a homemade edible swirled chocolate shot cup (you must be 21 and up to order the dessert).

I love how each staff member that brought the various items to our table took the time to explain what everything was and even suggestions on what sauces to pour over which items. Our courses were never rushed and appeared at the perfect times which was really nice. It gave us time to enjoy and appreciate each course without feeling rushed along. Nichole even brought us out a couple of freshly baked macaroon cookies to wish us a happy anniversary - so sweet! Even more fitting for the evening, we witnessed a couple get engaged with the help of Santa Claus and the restaurant staff - it was a magical evening!

Helpful Suggestions for your Stay:
  • Before booking your stay, be sure to check out MotorCity Casino Hotel's social media pages such as Twitter and Facebook for their special "Social Media Room Rates" - currently I see they have a special $129 January room rate!
  • All rooms have doorbells, which was a new experience for us. Make sure you are familiar with how it sounds because it the hotel needs to reach you, they will ring your doorbell to get your attention.
  • Parking - Both Self-Park and Valet Parking are Free. The Self-Park lots even have handy overhead green/red lights above the parking spots to let you know availability.
  • Take your Passport if you have one. The Ambassador Bridge is minutes from the hotel and you could take a side trip into Windsor, Canada.
  • Plan on packing an extra outfit just in case you want to spend time in the Casino because some of your guests might be sensitive to smoke and this will ensure a fresh set a clothes to change into.
  • MotorCity Casino Hotel provides you with a listing of events for the month in their establishment, in addition to many brochures in your room packed with things to do in the area.
  • Check out all the surrounding tourist attractions such as the RenCen, Greektown (make sure to stop in the Astoria Bakery - you won't be disappointed), the Detroit RiverWalk and more - there is always something to do and see in Detroit!
