Progresso hits a Flavor High with their new Premium Cooking Stocks #ProgressoEats

It's no secret that bone broth has been one of the hottest trends of last year, and continues to build steam on the food scene. Now foodies, like my family, can enjoy sipping, cooking and experimenting with a high quality bone broth from the comfort of their own kitchen. Made by simmering real bones, flavorful vegetables and aromatic herbs, Progresso's new line of Premium Cooking Stocks are available now in stores nationwide!

Progresso has been a brand that my family has used for many decades from their soups, chilis, broths and more. My husband likes taking Progresso canned soups into work for a delicious and easy lunch while he is busy in his role as administrator and teacher at his school. We love using the broths to prepare soups, side dishes, gravies, sauces, pastas and more - they give a rich flavor to any dish we are making.

Progresso recently added three new premium cooking stocks to their line of stocks and broths: Vegetable, Chicken and Unsalted Chicken Stock.  We put the Vegetable stock right to work when we received it just by heating it up for my husband to drink since he was feeling ill. Usually when we aren't feeling well, we tend to stick with clear liquids and they always seem to do the trick to aid in us feeling better. The Vegetable stock was no exception. My husband said he could taste the vegetables and savory herbs used yet it was light enough to drink and provide him nourishment while he was getting better.

Progresso's website has a lot of recipes on their website using their various products and they are categorized by main ingredient, occasion, special diet and even cook time. Even though there were several recipes I bookmarked to make in the future such as their Porchetta with Bacon and the side dish Fennel Gratin with Parmesan Bread Crumbs, we went a more traditional route in time for our holiday gatherings by making the Garlic-Parmesan Mashed Potatoes using Progresso Premium Chicken Stock.

Ingredients
  • 5 lb Yukon gold potatoes, peeled and cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 2 cups Progresso™ chicken stock (from 32-oz carton)
  • 1 bulb garlic, cloves peeled
  • 3/4 cup butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup shredded Parmesan cheese (4 oz)
Directions
  1. In 6-quart saucepan, place potatoes and enough water to cover. Heat to boiling over high heat. Reduce heat to medium-low; cook 15 to 20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until potatoes are very tender.
  2. Meanwhile, in 2-quart saucepan, heat stock, garlic, butter and salt to boiling over high heat. Reduce heat to medium-high. Boil 18 to 20 minutes, until reduced by half; remove from heat. Mash garlic in stock mixture with potato masher.
  3. Drain potatoes, and return to pan. Pour stock mixture over potatoes, and mash together until fluffy; stir in cheese.

The mashed potatoes were easy to prepare and a huge hit with our entire family for Christmas. The chicken stock added extra flavor and really kicked our traditional mashed potatoes up a notch - I don't think we will make them the old way again!

Progresso also has changed up their packaging a little on their broths and stocks by eliminating that little foil cap on the inside. Progresso now has a one-stop opening on their broths and stocks. It's designed so that you don't need to take the foil seal off; when you turn the lid, there is little teeth that break the inner-foil seal by spiraling down inside it. They still have the tamper-evidence ring on the outside but now have saved us a step by making their containers just twist to open and pour!

Progresso products are available in stores nationwide. You can use their product locator to try and find these New Premium Cooking Stocks near you in addition to all their other items! They also have coupons available on their website that change periodically so make sure to come back often for the current coupon offer!

  5. I never thought of using it in mashed potatoes, it would be a good flavor boost. I just used chicken stock for the first time last week in a chicken pot pie recipe and it was delicious.
