Today is the day! The live-action re-telling of one of my favorite Disney movies "Beauty and the Beast" is now in theaters! I watched the animated version of the film in 1991 and it dawned on me that my daughter Rose is pretty much the same age as I was when I saw the film in theaters and now she is getting to see the live-action version!

In case you missed the movie's trailer - here it is:

Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast” is a live-action re-telling of the studio’s animated classic which refashions the classic characters from the tale as old as time for a contemporary audience, staying true to the original music while updating the score with several new songs. “Beauty and the Beast” is the fantastic journey of Belle, a bright, beautiful and independent young woman who is taken prisoner by a beast in his castle. Despite her fears, she befriends the castle’s enchanted staff and learns to look beyond the Beast’s hideous exterior and realize the kind heart and soul of the true Prince within.

Disney did a fantastic job incorporating all the original elements and story lines, plus they added some additional background about Belle's mother and the Beast's family to give more depth to the characters in addition to some new songs alongside the original songs.

If you are taking younger children, just be aware that the Beast could appear scary to them as well as the wolves. And as far as the controversy surrounding the movie and the "gay moment" that some are speaking out against - yes, there are some innuendos and LeFou is a pretty fun and flamboyant character, but honestly, I felt he was just as flamboyant and jovial in the animated version of the film. I truly loved seeing the inclusion of interracial couples as well highlighted amongst some of the characters in the Beast's house.

Rose and I truly loved this movie and cannot wait until we can see it again this weekend with my husband. After the movie ended, Rose turned to me and stated that Beauty and the Beast had now moved into her top movie spot behind the Phantom of the Opera and Breakfast Club (yes, my 14 year old has a spectrum of favorites for different reasons). I definitely recommend seeing this movie. I feel it's target audience is elementary age kids up to adults but you know your children best.

Don't forget to check out Disney's Beauty and the Beast Original Motion Picture Soundtrack as well - it is Now Available to Purchase in select stores and online here at Amazon!! I am getting it to put in Rose's Easter basket because the entire way home from the advance screening she sang the song "Evermore" from the movie that Dan Stevens sings!
