The last time my husband and I bought our respective vehicles together was 5 years ago and with a soon-to-be teenage driver on our hands in the coming year, we have been talking more and more about what we are going to do about our cars - keep them (or one), give one to Rose to use, buy two new ones, etc. We haven't come up with an answer to that yet and I am happy to know we have Cars.com to help use research, plan and get us well-prepared with knowledge so we can make those decisions.
After checking out Cars.com, we have found some tips on their site to help us out on finding the perfect cars for our family (and for you as well). Here are some tips I found with be very helpful when we deciding to purchasing cars:
Research - this is by far the most important tip. Arming yourself with knowledge on the right research on the cars you are looking at will go a long way. Cars.com's website has a huge selection of information that will provide you with everything you need to make an informed purchase...including their Videos & Reviews feature. They provide extensive reviews and essential information about a wide variety of different cars. And most importantly, they give it to you straight without sugar coating or hiding the bad reviews of cars. This will go a long way as you factor in the size of the car based on your family size, how many miles you drive within a years, features you need (and those extras you might want) and more.
Never stick with just one dealer! Shopping around will give you a chance to check out the current prices, deals and incentives each dealership is offering and also allow you to look into financing options so you can in mind a budget you have set forth and making sure the monthly payments will be in your price range. Even better, head to your local bank branch or credit union to get pre-approved to see what your price range will be.
Always make sure you (and your significant other) take the car or cars out for test drives on the expressway and surface streets. This is also a big factor in figuring out if this is the right car for you. If it is a used car, we have always taken the car to our mechanic that we trust and ask them to give it a look-over to make sure there are no underlying issues that we can see on the surface. This is especially important right now unfortunately after both Hurricanes Harvey and Irma. There will be a lot of water damaged cars that may end up all over the country to be resold.
Make sure your first stop is Cars.com when you start thinking about the big step of purchasing a new or used car so you will be able to buy with confidence.
