Our quest to support local Michigan businesses and products continues! We recently heard about a Michigan company called Mitten Crate and were instantly intrigued by their concept: a monthly subscription to a box filled with Michigan-made products! Ingenious!
What is Mitten Crate?
Michigan's local food scene is exploding with new artisan products and specialty goods. Mitten Crate sends a deliciously curated assortment right to your doorstep every month. We've teamed up with Gleaner's to provide three people with meals for every crate shipped. Sign up yourself, or send a crate to family and friends, and see what “Michigan Made” is all about!Mitten Crate sent us out their February box and I seriously had to restrain myself and not sample everything before my family got home - it was very difficult! Our Mitten Crate was jammed packed with Sweet Artisan Marshmallows in chocolate and vanilla flavors, Dave's Sweet Tooth toffee in Peanut Butter Crunch flavor, Kitchen with a Cause's Love Bars in a huge variety of flavors, Sajouna Bakery Pita Chips in Sea Salt & Black Pepper flavor, Scotty O'Hotty's Mild Pepper Hot Sauce and Just Good Chocolate's Wild Blueberry Walnut Cacao Granola and Hot Cocoa mix.
Inside the box there is a sheet with explanations of all the Michigan companies and the products included in that month's box plus it tells a little bit about the Food Bank donation that was made thanks in part to your Mitten Crate box purchase!
The goodies we received were all high quality, delicious products! Out of the 6 companies, 5 were unfamiliar to us (we knew about Scotty O'Hotty's before - YUM) so it was wonderful to be introduced to these new companies we hadn't heard of before!
The Artisan Marshmallows were outstanding as was Dave's Sweet Tooth toffee....I think my husband ate 75% of the toffee which is quite unusual for him since he isn't much of a sweets-eater! The Sajouna Pita Chips were so full of flavor - the Sea Salt & Pepper combination was delicious - they even had a tangy vinegar-like taste to them. We loved them so much we didn't even dip them in anything - we ate them plain!
Scotty O'Hotty's Mild Pepper sauce was delicious - we had the pleasure of working with them last year and their products are amazing and full of flavor! The Just Good Chocolate products - YUM! Rose loved the Hot chocolate mix and she said it was the best hot cocoa she ever had! The Wild Blueberry Walnut Cacao granola my husband took into work as a snack and said it was delicious and full of fruit and nut pieces with a great texture and taste!
Finally, the "Love Bars" from Kitchen with a Cause! These Love Bars are out of this world! We tried their Chocolate Chip, Butterscotch White Chocolate, Healthy Breakfast, Cinnamon Crisp (like a Snickerdoodle) and the Gluten-free Peanut Butter Love Bars! All of them were flavorful and delicious! Plus Kitchen with a Cause donates 25% of each sale to the organization "Stand up 2 Cancer! Amazing - definitely a tasty way to make a difference!
