In honor of Father's Day, we have put together this fantastic list of gift ideas for the Dads in your life to make them feel special!

Nerd Block Jr Girl February Subscription Box Review and Giveaway (Ends 3/11)

“The featured product was provided free of charge to facilitate my review, but all opinions are 100% the opinion of the Coupon Savvy Sarah family.”

Rose was so thrilled to work with Nerd Block Jr again to review their latest monthly Nerd Block for Girls - she had a lot of fun with all the goodies in the first one she reviewed in January and couldn't wait to open February's monthly box! You can check out what she got in her January Nerd Block here.

I love the selection of monthly subscription boxes from Nerd Block including Nerd Block Classic, Nerd Block Jr Boy, Nerd Block Jr Girl, Horror Block and Arcade Block - there truly is something for everyone!

Nerd Block is based in Canada but they ship worldwide. Every month their subscribers receive a “Block” – a box full of toys, collectibles and more based on the theme or type of box they choose.

February's Nerd Block Jr. for Girls contained a Kirby plush toy, a Frozen figurine (we got Olaf - they vary in each Nerd Block), an exclusive Nerd Block Imps and Monsters coloring book, a Wonderland Notebook (300 pages with a canvas front) and another exclusive Nerd Block item - Cliccors.

For the record, Rose patiently waited while I took pictures of the items and then drove right for the exclusive mystery item - Cliccors! She promptly shaped them and made a little man out of them both and took a picture herself (seen above) for this review. The Wonderland Notebook is really nice (I almost want to sneak it away from Rose) - Rose already claimed it as her new writing journal. Kirby got a special place of honor amongst her stuffed animals last night and I found Olaf in her purse to go to Grandma's house to show her. This month's Nerd Block Jr was a fun one for Rose and she really loved it just as she did last month's box.

Available Nerd Block Boxes
Nerd Block Classic: $19.99
Nerd Block Jr Girls: $13.99
Nerd Block Jr Boys: $13.99
Horror Block: $19.99
Arcade Block: $19.99

Prices above do not include shipping. The prices are for one month but if you choose a 3, 6 or 12 month subscription - you can save 10%-20% off each month!

Nerd Blocks are sent out approximately the 15th of every month and Horror Block and Arcade Block ship on the 25th of each month. You may start and stop your Nerd Block subscription anytime you like, meaning there's no commitment! Nerd Blocks currently ship to the US, Canada and other countries where tracking and air delivery available.

Nerd Block Jr. Monthly Subscription Box Review

“The featured product was provided free of charge to facilitate my review, but all opinions are 100% the opinion of the Coupon Savvy Sarah family.”

I first learned about Nerd Block this past year and I was amazed at their selection of monthly subscription boxes including Nerd Block Classic, Nerd Block Jr Boy, Nerd Block Jr Girl, Horror Block and Arcade Block - there truly is something for everyone!

Nerd Block is based in Canada but they ship worldwide. Every month their subscribers receive a “Block” – a box full of toys, collectibles and more. Rose got the January Nerd Block Jr for girls in the mail last week and she was so excited to open the box and see what was in it.

January's Nerd Block Jr for Girls contained a plush Olaf from Frozen (LOVE OLAF!), a Hello Kitty First Aid kit, two Harry Potter figures, Shopkins toy and a Despicable Me Minion Finger Puppet.

Rose loved all the items! She may be 12 years old, but she still has tons of plush toys in her room that she sleeps with and Olaf was one of her favorite characters from Frozen. She shared one of her Harry Potter figures with one of her classmates who is obsessed with the books. The Hello Kitty first aid kit was perfect - she packed it in her school backpack right away. The Shopkins were perfectly timed with this box's arrival because Rose was just asking me what Shopkins were a couple days before the box arrived! She thought the Despicable Me Minion finger puppet was fun and entertained her younger cousins with it! It was a really terrific selection of items!

DIY Gift Idea: Homemade Bubble Bath Recipe (Three Ingredients!)

Looking for a quick and thoughtful gift idea with ingredients you already have in your cupboards? My Homemade Bubble Bath recipe will delight the recipient and yield tons of bubbles! Why not double the batch and save some for yourself?

Homemade Bubble Bath

Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup shampoo (I used a lavender-scented baby shampoo)
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/4 tsp salt

Mix all ingredients until you get a gel and place in sealed container until use. To create your perfect bubble bath, just squirt the gel mixture into your running water and stir it up with your hands since the water won't break up the gel mixture without a little help. Relax and enjoy!

I used a lavender scented shampoo for the soothing scent, but you can use any shampoo you have on hand or prefer. I found a pump dispenser at the dollar store that would make it convenient to add to your bath; I purchased a loofah as well to make this an inexpensive gift for someone!

Blue Apron Meals Review and Giveaway

“The featured product was provided free of charge to facilitate my review, but all opinions are 100% the opinion of the Coupon Savvy Sarah family.”

Being a busy family always on the go, I am finding it more difficult to budget my time with grocery shopping and meal planning between working full-time, karate and more! Thankfully my husband brought the meal delivery service Blue Apron to my attention and I decided to check them out for myself!

How Blue Apron Works:

  • Pick the plan and number of people.  You can define any dietary preferences/restrictions.
  • Food is delivered in a refrigerated box so that it stays fresh on it’s way to you or if it gets stuck outside because you aren’t home yet which was perfect for me since I work outside of the home!
  • You can skip weeks if you need to!
  • If you are a loyal customer you get additional goodies in the mail and earn free meals to give to friends!

The Meals:

  • You are provided with all the ingredients you need in the proper proportions along with easy to read recipe cards.
  • Blue Apron assumes you have salt, pepper and olive oil at home to use.
  • The meals should take you about 35 minutes on average to prepare.
  • Meals are 500-700 calories per serving.
  • It is suggested to cook fish and seafood first.

The Cost:

  • Starting at $9.99 per person per meal (FREE shipping)
  • Minimum order must be 3 meals a week for 2 people (ends up being $59.94 for 2 people).
  • You have the option of 2, 4 or 6 people.
  • There is no commitment.  You can cancel anytime before weekly cutoff day.
Our Blue Apron package came in the nick of time! I love that I was able to track my package through the FedEx link that Blue Apron sent me and we ended up making our first meal the night we received the box since we knew it was coming! I also love that I knew what meals were coming to us! The package was very insulated and ingredients were very cold when they arrived.

All the ingredients are clearly labeled and individually packaged - you just need to pair up the ingredients with the specific recipes which are clearly marked on the brightly colored recipe cards. The recipe cards showed great photos of the different steps to take which is great for those who might not be as experienced in the kitchen as others or if it is a dish they aren't familiar with.

We received the meal ingredients and recipe cards for 5-Spice Pork Buns with Red Cabbage, Carrot & Thai Basil Salad, Chicken and Mixed Mushroom Forager with Toasted Parmesan-Garlic Bread and Asparagus & Spring Onion Tart with Arugula & Mache Salad.

We prepared the Chicken and Mixed Mushroom Forager for our first meal. I love the clear recipe cards with the photos and easy to follow instructions. The chicken we received for the meal however seemed to be a smaller portion than what was shown on our recipe card and it wasn't butterflied as expected. I ended up cutting the chicken into chunks to help spread it further in the recipe. I didn't make any additional changes and the dish turned out delicious. I made Rose something separate to eat because I didn't think she would like the wild mushrooms but she surprised me by trying the dish and loved it.....especially the two different wild mushrooms that we hadn't tried before!

The other two meals - the 5-Spice Pork Buns and the Asparagus & Spring Onion Tart were just as delicious. I have never prepared the pork dish or used Chinese steam buns so it was a nice treat to have all the ingredients on hand and already measured out! Again in regards to the portion of meat we received versus the actual photos of the quantity of meat on the recipe cards - I felt it didn't accurately reflect what we received. The quality of the ingredients though are top quality and the dishes are full of flavor and easy to prepare! As far as cost ($9.99 per person, per meal), Blue Apron is pretty reasonable.  It’s probably slightly more than if you were to do your own grocery shopping, but definitely less than a restaurant meal!

MADE IN MICHIGAN - Mitten Crate Review and Giveaway

“The featured product was provided free of charge to facilitate my review, but all opinions are 100% the opinion of the Coupon Savvy Sarah family.”

Our quest to support local Michigan businesses and products continues! We recently heard about a Michigan company called Mitten Crate and were instantly intrigued by their concept: a monthly subscription to a box filled with Michigan-made products! Ingenious!

What is Mitten Crate?
Michigan's local food scene is exploding with new artisan products and specialty goods. Mitten Crate sends a deliciously curated assortment right to your doorstep every month. We've teamed up with Gleaner's to provide three people with meals for every crate shipped. Sign up yourself, or send a crate to family and friends, and see what “Michigan Made” is all about!
Mitten Crate sent us out their February box and I seriously had to restrain myself and not sample everything before my family got home - it was very difficult! Our Mitten Crate was jammed packed with Sweet Artisan Marshmallows in chocolate and vanilla flavors, Dave's Sweet Tooth toffee in Peanut Butter Crunch flavor, Kitchen with a Cause's Love Bars in a huge variety of flavors, Sajouna Bakery Pita Chips in Sea Salt & Black Pepper flavor, Scotty O'Hotty's Mild Pepper Hot Sauce and Just Good Chocolate's Wild Blueberry Walnut Cacao Granola and Hot Cocoa mix.

Inside the box there is a sheet with explanations of all the Michigan companies and the products included in that month's box plus it tells a little bit about the Food Bank donation that was made thanks in part to your Mitten Crate box purchase!

The goodies we received were all high quality, delicious products! Out of the 6 companies, 5 were unfamiliar to us (we knew about Scotty O'Hotty's before - YUM) so it was wonderful to be introduced to these new companies we hadn't heard of before!

The Artisan Marshmallows were outstanding as was Dave's Sweet Tooth toffee....I think my husband ate 75% of the toffee which is quite unusual for him since he isn't much of a sweets-eater! The Sajouna Pita Chips were so full of flavor - the Sea Salt & Pepper combination was delicious - they even had a tangy vinegar-like taste to them. We loved them so much we didn't even dip them in anything - we ate them plain!

Scotty O'Hotty's Mild Pepper sauce was delicious - we had the pleasure of working with them last year and their products are amazing and full of flavor! The Just Good Chocolate products - YUM! Rose loved the Hot chocolate mix and she said it was the best hot cocoa she ever had! The Wild Blueberry Walnut Cacao granola my husband took into work as a snack and said it was delicious and full of fruit and nut pieces with a great texture and taste!

Finally, the "Love Bars" from Kitchen with a Cause! These Love Bars are out of this world! We tried their Chocolate Chip, Butterscotch White Chocolate, Healthy Breakfast, Cinnamon Crisp (like a Snickerdoodle) and the Gluten-free Peanut Butter Love Bars! All of them were flavorful and delicious! Plus Kitchen with a Cause donates 25% of each sale to the organization "Stand up 2 Cancer! Amazing - definitely a tasty way to make a difference!

Interested in getting a monthly taste of Michigan companies? You can subscribe to Mitten Crate for yourself or as a gift! Order by April 1st and you will get the April Mitten Crate box!

Love With Food Monthly Subscription Box Review

“The featured product was provided free of charge to facilitate my review, but all opinions are 100% the opinion of the Coupon Savvy Sarah family.”

Let's face it.....who doesn't like to snack or eat? Not one person in my family - that's for sure! So trying out new foods and snacks are a real treat for us! Love With Food has found a great way to introduce new foods and snacks to the public in it's monthly subscription boxes!

Brief overview of Love With Food:
Love With Food is the easiest way to discover what's tasty, delivered to your door! For only $10/month, members will receive a curated box of unique, hard-to-find tasty foods which varies based on seasonal themes. Say goodbye to boring grocery selections and HELLO to a monthly tasty surprise!
PLUS for each box ordered, you'll be donating a meal to a hungry child in USA! I love companies that take the time to give back and I am more inclined to purchase from those companies!

We received a box filled with tasty treats in the Flavors of Fall box last month. Some of the yummy goodies we got were Tuxedo Popcorn from Kukuruza Popcorn which was delicious and gone in no time! We also received a Green & Black's Organic Dark Chocolate bar which was very decadent! My favorite item was the Almond, Apricot and Yoghurt Bar from Eat Natural - it was a sweet, creamy and fruity snack and I wish I could find them locally!

We also received a Rosemary Sea Salt Shortbread from Dancing Deer Baking Company - there were 2 cookies in the package so I did share with my husband and this was such an unusual and tasty cookie! We finally just used the Marsala Indian spice blend that we received in our box too - it made a flavorful chicken dinner! This was definitely a box filled with items that tickled our taste buds!

A monthly subscription to Love With Food is $10 (or you can get the Deluxe box for $17 - double the snacks and two meals are donated) and don't forget with each box purchased - they donate a meal to a hungry child in the USA! Follow Love With Food on Facebook to stay up to date on the latest news and promotions!
