I am always on the look-out for films with a positive message and that are good for our entire family to watch. I was even more excited to review this movie Golden Shoes because not only does it star Detroit native Christian Koza but it was also filmed in Michigan. Golden Shoes was written and directed by Lance Kawas (Fractured) and is now available to own on DVD from Anchor Bay Entertainment at retailers nationwide in addition to online at Amazon.
Movie Synopsis:
As long as he could remember, eight-year-old Christian Larou (Christian Koza) dreamed of being a great soccer player like his idol, Cristiano Ronaldo. When his father is deployed to Afghanistan and his mother is hospitalized, he pours himself into the game he loves. With the help of some very special shoes, can Christian lead his team to the championship, inspire an entire nation, and bring his family together again?
Eric Roberts (THE DARK KNIGHT), Dina Meyer (STARSHIP TROOPERS), David DeLuise (“Wizards Of Waverly Place”), Montel Williams (“JAG”), Aedin Mincks (“A.N.T. Farm”), Vivica A. Fox (INDEPENDENCE DAY) and John Rhys-Davies (THE LORD OF THE RINGS TRILOGY) co-star in this feel-good family hit where believing in yourself is the greatest goal of all.
Our Thoughts:
First off, I love that this film is not only filmed in Michigan, but stars a Michigan native (the lead character Christian) as well. I would recommend this film to kids 12+ because of some language in the film. This movie reminded me of a Cinderella-inspired story of a boy whose father is away, mother is ill and Christian is being taken care of and mistreated by his neighbor and his sons. This movie is about much more than soccer - it is about overcoming bullying, perseverance and other life lessons.
