Disneynature’s MONKEY KINGDOM opens today (4/17) in theaters everywhere. If you go see MONKEY KINGDOM during opening week (April 17-23) and Disneynature will make a donation in your honor to Conservation International to help protect monkeys and other endangered species in their natural habitats. Learn more about their conservation efforts here. I love when companies give back and it was really great to see in the opening of the film how all the donations have been used from the past films that Disneynature has released.

Monkey Kingdom Movie Synopsis:
Life is an adventure for Maya, the clever and resourceful blonde-bobbed monkey in “Monkey Kingdom,” Disneynature’s new feature film set among ancient ruins in the storied jungles of South Asia.

Maya’s world is forever changed when she welcomes her son, Kip, into her complicated extended family. Like all families, Maya’s has more than its share of colorful personalities — and she’s determined to give her son a leg up in the world. When their longtime home at Castle Rock is taken over by powerful neighboring monkeys, Maya's whole family is forced to relocate, and she uses her street smarts and ingenuity to lead them to untapped resources amidst strange new creatures and unsettling surroundings. Ultimately, they will all have to work together to reclaim Castle Rock, where Maya can hopefully realize her dreams for her son’s future.

Featuring a rich variety of characters, including a mischievous mongoose, simple-minded langur monkeys, predatory leopards and monitor lizards, “Monkey Kingdom” is directed by Mark Linfield (“Chimpanzee,” “Earth”) and co-directed by Alastair Fothergill (“Chimpanzee,” “Bears”). With music from award-winning composer Harry Gregson-Williams ("The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe," “Shrek” movies), Disneynature’s eighth True Life Adventure—the follow-up to 2014’s “Bears”— is now showing in theaters nationwide.

Our thoughts:

Rose and I had the pleasure of attending an advance screening of this movie and it was amazing. I truly feel this movie would be loved by all ages - from little ones to adults! I personally didn't feel there were any scenes too scary for little ones and any deaths of the animals were handled tastefully without showing anything graphic....same goes for the coupling up of any monkeys!

The film was visually stunning with a gorgeous location and setting. I learned a lot about the Toque Macaque monkeys in this movie and they are amazing creatures (who knew monkeys could swim under water?). There was the perfect amount of silliness and humor in this movie in addition to suspense and drama as the monkeys interacted amongst each other and other animals in their habitat as well.

Rose and I particularly enjoyed a fun scene involving the monkeys and a dog (hilarious) and I personally loved the introduction of a "hunky monkey" to the tunes of "What a Man" by Salt N Pepa - I laughed so hard with my friend and fellow blogger Lauren from Mrs. Weber's Neighborhood, who we were lucky enough to be seated next to!

This film is rated G with a run-time of 81 minutes and Tina Fey is the film's narrator. I highly recommend checking this movie out. Rose and I are planning on taking my husband to it Saturday night!

Stay up to date on Disneynature's Monkey Kingdom by following the film's Facebook (there are a bunch of behind the scenes monkey antics on video shared there) and Twitter accounts.
