NEW Disney Princess and Frozen Crochet Kits from Thunder Bay Press #Disney

“The featured product was provided free of charge to facilitate my review, but all opinions are 100% the opinion of the Coupon Savvy Sarah family. This post may contain affiliate links and I will be compensated if you make a purchase after clicking on my links.”

With Summer break just around the corner, I love having craft kits, books and activities handy to keep Rose busy and to avoid the dreaded Summer-boredom conundrum. I was super excited to work with Thunder Bay Press again this year to review some awesome crochet kits. Prior to last year, neither Rose nor myself knew how to crochet so the kits were very helpful with their step by step instructions.

Thunder Bay Press has two newer Disney crochet kits out that have the Disney Frozen and Disney Princesses theme.

http://amzn.to/1Ot6TX0

About the Disney Frozen Crochet Kit:
Do you want to crochet a snowman? How about Elsa and Anna, too? Let it go and create all twelve cuddly characters from the Frozen tundra! All the materials you need to create Elsa and Anna are included, and your creativity is sure to snowball from there. The Queen of Cold and all her friends will make great gifts, or adorable additions to your own collection. Don't hesitate! For the first time in forever, let these characters melt your heart.

http://amzn.to/1V4bLDe

About the Disney Princesses Crochet Kit:
Create 12 of Disney's most enchanting characters! A full-color, 76-page instruction book with detailed patterns and colorful photos will guide you from "once upon a time" to "happily ever after" using your yarn and hook. To start you off, the kit includes all the materials needed to create Cinderella and Ariel. Each Disney princess is sure to be a treasured part of any crochet collection!

Our Thoughts:
The great thing about these kits is that everything is included in them to make two characters plus instructions on how to create more characters (you would just need to get the yarn for them). This makes it the perfect craft to take anywhere to work on it, including a summer trip because you know the kids get bored even then! Crocheting can be a relaxing craft when you get the hang of it. The step-by-step instructions are amazing and clear which is great for us "first-timers." Rose and I both found it easy to follow along while we took turns working on our favorite characters. Getting the needles just right in our uncoordinated hands is another story but it definitely teaches one to be patient in order to get it right! These kits are really cool and I love the huge assortment of other themed kits available!!!!

Check out these super cute kits, plus all other varieties available such as Star Wars, Wizard of Oz, Peanuts and more - you can find them all online at Amazon from Thunder Bay Press.

#DIY Edible Holiday Platter, Plates and Bowls Project - Festive and fun for the Holidays!

https://www.pinterest.com/pin/79868593369889198/

I love making homemade edible gifts to give during the holiday season and even to bring to gatherings and parties we attend. A couple years ago my sister gave us cookies on a homemade edible plate and it was such a fun idea that we decided to do it ourselves! The fun thing about this recipe is you can get very creative when shaping the hot melted mints and create some fancy shapes like bowls and cups too, in addition to plates and platters!

Ingredients:
  • Starlight Mints - red and green (we used generic ones, but you can also use Brach's mints)

Tools:
  • Cookie sheets, circular pizza sheets, jelly roll pans and spring-form pans
  • Parchment paper (wax paper can be used too but parchment works better)

1. Preheat oven to 350F degrees.

2. Place wax paper on whatever type of pan you are using.

3. Arrange mints in any design you wish on top of wax paper or parchment paper on a cookie sheet (We did all red plates and a red and green ringed bowl - use your imagination). Allow for space around edge of paper since mints will melt and spread a little.

https://www.pinterest.com/pin/79868593369889198/

4. Bake for approximately 8-10 minutes.

5. Take out and allow to cool on cookie sheet for approximately 5 minutes (cool for less time if you are trying to mold into a bowl or other shape - it will need to cool long enough for mints not to run). Note: we molded one of our round shapes over an upside down bowl (heat-resistant) to shape into the bowl below!

6. Remove wax paper from bottom - these are fragile so handle with care.

We even stacked our homemade bowl and plate for an extra festive flair!

Crayola's NEW Virtual Design Pro Car Collection & Shadow FX Color Projector - Perfect for Holiday Gift Giving!

“The featured product was provided free of charge to facilitate my review, but all opinions are 100% the opinion of the Coupon Savvy Sarah family.”

I love giving gifts to all the young children in our life that allow them to channel their creativity whether it be through books, music or art-themed items (last year we gave our daughter an art easel!). Crayola products have such a wide variety of products that it covers my gift list for the littlest munchkin onto the tweens!

Crayola sent us two super cool art products - the Shadow FX Color Projector and the Virtual Design Pro Car Collection to try out for our holiday gift guide. Here is a little more information about both of these Crayola products:

Crayola Shadow FX Color Projector provides kids the opportunity to bring their imagination to life through the use of color, light and motion while also enabling them to create in the dark! It is suggested for ages 6 and up and requires 3 AA batteries. The Projector comes with Drawing Panel with Stand, Tri-Color Light Base, Shadow Shapes Sheet and 2 White Gel FX Markers.

Shadow FX Color Projector Features:
  • Easily create and orchestrate exciting color animations and light shows
  • Customize scenes with color shadows, stencils and toys
  • Play with projection size and tri-colored light base to create unique light shows
  • You can now project shadows in color!
  • Reusable –simply wipe the panel clean with a damp cloth to create again & again

Virtual Design Pro Car Collection gives kids the opportunity to bring their designs to life –just like a professional designer! It is suggested for ages 6 plus no batteries are necessary! The Virtual Design Pro includes a Design portfolio and 20-page book, 36 long colored pencils, Pencil sharpener, 20 markers, 4 stencils and the Car Collection App.

Virtual Design Pro Car Collection Features:
  • Crayola Virtual Design Pro brings your colorful designs to life virtually –just like a professional designer!
  • Car Collection provides a full range of high-quality, colorful design tools and special software that brings your cars to life on a virtual stunt course.
  • Compatible with iOSand Android smartphones and tablets, and iPod Touch.

Our Thoughts:

Both of these products appealed to daughter plus my nieces and nephews that were old enough to play with them. Rose loved creating fun designs on the projector with the white gel markers and putting on an art show for us in the dark. She also (as a 12 year old girl - gasp!) loved the Car Collection! She loves to get on our tablets (and our phones) and use the various creative and gaming apps out there so creating her own car - she was in artistic heaven! And to be able to watch it perform on a virtual stunt course - Crayola outdid themselves with this product!

Crayola has many products that can help you cross off kids on your gift list this year whether for Christmas or birthdays as well! You can head over to their website where you will get a 10% off offer when you sign up with your email! Follow Crayola on Facebook and Twitter as well to stay up to date on all the latest new products and promotions!

Thanksgiving Turkey Cookies Recipe

These Turkey Cookies are so fun and easy to assemble for Thanksgiving! I remember making these with my family as I was growing up and having a lot of fun as we prepared for the holiday meal. In recent years we have even brought the ingredients to large family gatherings and let the kids assemble the cookies for dessert to keep the occupied while the adults visited with each other! Think of it as an edible craft!

The Turkey Cookies typically use store-bought sugar cookies (I used chocolate chip because the store was out of sugar cookies) but you can make your own cookies just as easily for this fun treat! Usually candy corn can be found year round, but I tend to grab a few extra bags after Halloween when it is clearance-priced.

Ingredients

  • 1 (10 count) package sugar cookies, store bought
  • 1 (16 ounce) container chocolate frosting
  • 1 (13 ounce) package Reese's miniature peanut butter cups
  • 1 (8 ounce) package candy corn
  • 1 (1 ounce) package red decorating gel or frosting

Directions

  1. Spread chocolate icing on sugar cookies.
  2. Unwrap peanut butter cups.
  3. Place Reese's peanut butter cups on lower half of frosted cookie.
  4. Fan 5-6 candy corns (tip down) around top of peanut butter cup to make the "feathers."
  5. Make the eyes and gobbler on the neck with the red gel icing.
  6. NOTE: This recipe can be adjusted to make any quantity you need.
