National Roller Coaster Day - Our Favorite? Rougarou at Cedar Point #BloggingAtCP

Today, August 16th, is National Roller Coaster Day and we are sharing our favorite - The New Rougarou at Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio!

Named after a terrifying werewolf-like creature in French folklore, the Rougarou [roo-guh-roo] feeds on screams and lurks in and around the swampy lagoon at the center of the park, shared with other coasters like Iron Dragon and Top Thrill Dragster.

Rougarou’s floorless trains will take riders on an epic journey at speeds reaching 60 mph as theirfeet dangle just inches above the track and the murky waters below. The trains will be manufactured by Bolliger & Mabillard, Monthey, Switzerland, the same team behind rides like Raptor and GateKeeper, and will transform the ride experience dramatically while utilizing the structure and track of the former Mantis roller coaster.

The ride begins with a climb to the top of the 145-foot-tall first hill, providing amazing views of the Cedar Point skyline. After reaching the apex, the trains will make a 180-degree turn to the right and plummet 137 feet, at a 52-degree angle, to within inches above the water. Thrill-seekers caught in Rougarou’s grasp will then be flipped upside-down by a 119-foot-tall vertical loop, spun around a 103-foot-tall dive loop, whipped around a highly-banked 360-degree turn and then twisted upside-down again by the world’s only inclined loop on a floorless coaster, angled at a wicked 45 degrees. Just when guests think the ride is over, the steel beast will take them through a 360-degree flat spin, tight and twisty turns and a figure-eight finale.

Ohio Travel - Check out the Newly Renovated Hotel Breakers + Cedar Point #BloggingAtCP

"Disclosure: As a Cedar Point Blogger, I was provided with a complimentary stay at Hotel Breakers and tickets to Cedar Point for my family and I. All opinions within this post are my own."

My family and I love to sneak away for a weekend here and there as our busy schedules allow so we were thrilled to be invited to checkout out the newly renovated Hotel Breakers Hotel in Sandusky, Ohio, which is located with direct access to Cedar Point Amusement Park.

Our daughter Rose (age 12) took these inside photos of Hotel Breakers

We have never stayed at the hotels right near Cedar Point so we were eager to check out Hotel Breakers. Located along the mile-long Cedar Point Beach, Hotel Breakers is the ultimate resort destination.  Along with a new exterior, the modernized hotel will has a new entrance portal, classic interior finishes, newly-furnished and remodeled rooms with LCD TV’s, new furniture, bedding and décor, and many other amenities and offerings.

The outdoor pool deck has been expanded to include a water play area with zero-depth entry, a hot tub plus new deck chairs and umbrellas. There is also a comfortable, social setting inside the five-story rotunda that features a full-service Starbucks and a refreshing Surf Lounge bar with a patio. The popular favorites of TGI Friday’s, Perkins and TOMO Hibachi Grill are available for your dining pleasure. Complimentary Wi-FI and fitness room are also be available...bonus! The rooms were super comfortable and we had a beautiful view of the coasters at Cedar Point in addition to the shores of Lake Erie

Being a guest of the hotel - you get early access to Cedar Point's park. This was a huge benefit to staying at Hotel Breakers because my husband and daughter were able to ride The Rougarou (the newest coaster) before the lines were long! We had so much fun at the park and with being a hotel guest, we were able to leave a couple times during the day to come back to the room, rest and get out of the sun, eat, etc, before heading back for more rides - we loved it. And it was all within walking distance!

If you are looking for some summer fun, be sure to check out Hotel Breakers! They have affordable rates, discounted passes to Cedar Point (plus early access to the park) and the gorgeous shoreline of Lake Erie.  You can place your reservations online at cedarpoint.com/hotelbreakers or by phone at (419) 627-2106. I would also suggest checking out their website for any special offers!

Castaway Bay Waterpark & Resort | Sandusky, Ohio - Fun Family Destination (HOT Giveaway!!!) #BloggingAtCP

I received a complimentary overnight stay, waterpark passes and breakfast buffet at Castaway Bay as a Cedar Point Blogger. All opinions expressed are those of Coupon Savvy Sarah.

My family and I recently had the pleasure to travel from Michigan to Ohio to stay at the Castaway Bay Indoor Waterpark and Resort. Boasting a balmy 82 degrees inside Cedar Point's year-round indoor waterpark resort - that is enough to entice this Michigan family to travel almost three hours from the freezing temperatures and mounds of snow!

Now before I show you all the fun we had at Castaway Bay,
I have two things to share with you:

CASTAWAY BAY DISCOUNT CODE

I am excited to share with you a money-saving discount code for Castaway Bay! The NEW "Room, Waterpark and Breakfast Buffet Package" starting at $149 (now through May 2, 2015). **CASTAWAY BAY PASS GIVEAWAY**

Castaway Bay provided us with FOUR (4) Day Pass Vouchers to GIVEAWAY to one lucky Coupon Savvy Sarah reader! See the bottom of this post to enter!

Also, be sure to check out my post on the newly renovated Hotel Breakers which reopens May 2015 in addition to Cedar Point's newest Floor-less coaster - The Rougarou!

We had an amazing time staying at Castaway Bay at the beginning of this month! Given the nautical theme of the resort, Castaway Bay really gives great attention to detail in the decor throughout the entire waterpark and resort.

Starfish Room w/Double Beds & Balcony

The rooms and suites in Castaway Bay's resort feature a private deck or balcony (in most), flat screen television, free wireless internet, microwave, mini-refrigerator and coffee maker. Also, many rooms have access to adjoining rooms - perfect for extended families or large groups. We stayed in the Starfish Room with a balcony view of the bay (even frozen it was a really pretty view).

We arrived before the 4pm check-in time and they already had our room available - it was really convenient to be able to drop all our bags off in the rooms, grab a bite to eat at Ebb & Eddy's. If you don't see what you want on the menu above - make sure to ask for their room service menu (bear in mind, you will be charged a room service fee even if you dine in the cafe area for ordering off this menu). If you happen to arrive before your room is ready, the helpful staff will store your belongings and you can head straight to the waterpark! You will also get a copy of the daily "Island Times" newsletter which gives you information on all the day's events at Castaway Bay including kid's activities, when the Peanuts Gang is around for fun photo opps and more!

The waterpark was a lot of fun and we spent a majority of our time there. Out of the different waterparks we have visited, I have to stay - I was happy that Castaway Bay's waterpark didn't smell over-chlorinated. I have left other parks with severe migraines due to the heavy chlorine smell and this was not the case here which made my time in the waterpark even more enjoyable.

At the waterpark:
  • Towels and life jackets are provided; little ones under a certain height are required to wear them in the wave pool area.
  • Lifeguards are on duty while the waterpark is open.
  • Big Daddy's Snack Shack is open at the waterpark for snacks, food, beverages and grown up drinks to consume while at the waterpark.
  • My suggestions: Don't forget to bring a coverup and flip-flops/swim shoes.
  • There are a ton of different areas to explore including the wave pool, hot tub, outdoor pool, tube slides, Lookout Langoon Family Funhouse (including the tipping bucket that drenches guests every two minutes), a toddler tide pool area and more!
Breakfast Buffet at Mango Mike's

At the resort:
  • Check out Crabbie's Quarterdesk Arcade for some fun family game activities!
  • While checking in, ask about signing up for their children's birthday club (Free waterpark day pass for kids 12 and under to use for his/her birthday). You can also sign up for the birthday club online.
  • Places to eat: Mango Mike's family-friendly buffet, Ebb & Eddy's Sweets & Eats and adjacent Woody's Chartroom, Bay Harbor and Quaker Steak & Lube (coming Summer 2015).
  • Check out the fun kid-friendly activities at Club Castaway in the lobby area throughout the day, such as movie night, karaoke, face painting, crafts and more!

Castaway Bay is definitely a fun escape for the entire family - no matter the age! Everyone will have fun and find fun activities to do! I can't wait to head back with my family (just hopefully without the snowstorm this time)!

Don't forget to follow Castaway Bay on Facebook to stay up to date on all their latest news and promotions!
